Adri Medina, a LEII student who is going to travel to Paris this summer
Adri Medina, a LEII student who is going to travel to Paris this summer.
A few weeks ago, the faculty announced the list of the winners of student mobility scholarships. Adri Medina, a LEII student of 4th semester is one of them. She is traveling to London this summer and we decided to interview her about this experience.
Interview by Clarissa, Paola and Lupita, check the rest after the break.
How did you know about the scholarship to travel to Paris?
I knew about it because one day the coordinator Norma Rubio gave us the information about it, after that I went to talk to her because she is also my tutor, and then she gave the documents that I need to prepare for applying.
What motived you to apply to this scholarship?
Principally, the experience that this kind of opportunities can give us as students, and also the opportunity to know other countries, cultures and people.
What did you take into account to write your letter of intent?
It was the most difficult part of the whole process, because it is not an easy job. I have to think about a lot of things, since the main reasons that I had for applying until what the authorities of the faculty expected of me.
Did you ever think of winning?
No. I thought I would not be accepted when I realized about the other people applying for the same scholarship, and after all the problems that I had with my documents, especially with my letter of intent.
How did you feel when you knew you were the winner?
I cannot explain it, but I will try, I didn’t want to know the results in the faculty because that day I had an exam and I had to give a class, but suddenly 2 girls went to the class to give me the news, in that moment I can believe it, but after that I feel too happy and was proud of myself.
How important for you is this travel?
This travel, is very important for me and also for my family, because is an experience that the people only have once. In this travel I think that I going to learn a lot of things that could help me in my degree and also in my life.
What are some academic and personal benefits of this experience?
When I talk about academic benefits I can say a lot of things, but the most important is that I could be able to compare the French educational system with the Mexican one, in order to have a better idea about our system and be conscious about the importance of that.
About personal benefits I think that there are a lot of too, because is a new experience that I will have, I have never travelled to Europe and in this case is for study, something that is different to travel with family or only to know a place. I will learn how to survive on my own for a month in another country with people that I don’t know. For me this is a challenge.
How did your family take the notice?
My family always supported me, and they told me that they were proud of me.
What difficulties have you found to do this travel?
I found a lot of difficulties, since the faculty because they always do everything at the last moment, and I think that it is a problem, also when we went to ask for some information they never knows anything. The other difficulty is the money because the scholarship is not enough for all the things that the university said at the beginning of the process, and we should pay more than they told us.
What recommendations would you give to the students who want to apply for a scholarship?
I can tell them that if the really want to, they should prepare their documents in advance, because the faculty don’t give us enough time for that. Another important thing is that they should save money in order to be able to know other countries like London.
